Reality Capture and Digital Twins should be incorporated into every building and infrastructure project. Unfortunately they are often viewed as a "Nice to Have" or something to consider in the future. We reject that mindset and have embarked on a mission to make Reality Capture and Digital Twin creation more accessible for projects. Through extensive research, customer and industry expert interviews, we have developed a process and toolset called Fusion Reality Capture™ that combines technology with a human-centered approach to delivery, education, and customer service.
Technology plays a crucial role in Reality Capture, and we believe we are only scratching the surface of its potential. Advancements in various sectors have led to the availability of incredible technology at affordable prices. One of the most exciting aspects of our work is the ability to combine technologies in innovative ways. This forms the foundation of Fusion Reality Capture™. We have designed a unique rig called "Rolly," exclusive to SiteScout360, which serves as a platform for integrating all available data collection technologies. The laser scanner is the standard for data collection, and Rolly supports two different ones out of the box: Emesent Hovermap and Ouster. We also include a 360° video camera for each digital twin project, providing comprehensive video walkthroughs. Recently, we were challenged to add a non-spatial sensor for light information collection—a spectrometer. We met the challenge and built this device:
Why stop at one sensor? Incorporating spatial data as a backdrop for traditionally non-spatial data is incredibly beneficial. Think of a weather map without the labeling of cities and roads—it becomes impossible to make informed decisions based solely on a precipitation report. This mindset is what drives the introduction of Fusion Reality Capture™ because the possibilities are exhilarating. In the near future, we plan to add various sensors to Rolly, such as those for WiFi signal, sound level, and cell signal. (Please comment below with suggestions for different sensors that might be interesting to overlay on spatial data.)
We hope to make this service available to our customers soon. While technology ignites our passion, it alone is not enough to justify the inclusion of Reality Capture and Digital Twins in every project we mentioned. This is where the "Process" aspect of Fusion Reality Capture™ comes into play: Delivery, Education, and Customer Service. Undoubtedly, the rapid convergence of technology will render the current version of Rolly obsolete over time. Look at Apple, which has integrated laser scanning into iPhones and iPads. What used to be a bespoke and expensive product is now available on millions of devices. To prepare for this equalization of the playing field, SiteScout360 focuses on Delivery, Education, and Customer Service. We have always prioritized these areas, and now, under the banner of Fusion Reality Capture™, we can reach even more people. Our aim is to reach as many individuals as possible because we are determined to change minds. However, one cannot effect change without compelling reasons. The convergence of technology alone is compelling, as it reduces on-site time and enables the capture of more data than traditional reality capture methods. To truly captivate the broadest audience, we choose to concentrate on Delivery, Education, and Customer Service. Delivery: We have discovered that most customers have specific requirements for their deliverables. Whether it involves specifying Revit 2021, delivering 360° videos in .MP4 format, providing e57 or LAS files, or using the customer's designated Revit families, we focus on meeting these individual needs to ensure our service is worth their time and effort. It may sound obvious, but we have learned that this attention to detail is anything but the norm. Education: We are on the verge of launching an educational video series that instructs our customers on how to utilize our deliverables and clarifies the relevance of these deliverables for their specific roles. We have observed a lack of resources, even on the vast internet, that address the issue of customers receiving reality capture deliverable files without knowing how to use them effectively. Our intention is to change that by providing in-depth educational videos that cater to specific customer roles, removing barriers to the full acceptance of reality capture across all projects and stakeholders. Customer Service: The final component of the Fusion Reality Capture™ process is customer service, an area in which we take great pride. Over the past two decades, we have cultivated relationships with our customers across various industries and job types. From our founders to every individual employee, we prioritize customer service because we genuinely want to. It is the reason for our longevity. We ensure that each of our employees is trained in customer service, seek out this quality in our hiring process, and consistently strive to deliver valuable work to our customers. Understanding why customers return is no secret—it's all about the customer experience. The Fusion Reality Capture™ process was created to merge Technology, Delivery, Education, and Customer Service into a single package that defines SiteScout360 and our commitment to our customers in "Making Reality Capture More Project-Friendly."
