Project Background
At this location, 1.5 million square feet of industrial space across 17 buildings is used to support various ships and shipyard operations. A report was requested on space utilization and an engineering analysis was required on how the space can be reconfigured to support more functionality across the shipyard.
Problem
The customer needed a way to visualize in 3D different processes and procedures happening across the shipyard location. This 3D information needed to be viewed and shared across multiple computers in multiple locations simultaneously.
This shipyard location covered a large area with variable building types, making traditional survey methods inefficient at gathering all of the needed information with consistent accuracy.

Approach
Using our state of the art, handheld, rapid digital data capture, our team was able to capture all 1.5 million square feet of the project site in 3 days. Our team modeled all 17 buildings to design level (LOD 350). The models were then incorporated into our 3D collaboration web application to allow multiple stakeholders across various locations the ability to simultaneously share project scenes, models, and scenarios and visualize complex processes across the shipyard.
Benefits
Using the measurement data we captured and the 3D models we created, the engineering team was able to validate their data and information. The engineering team spent less time modeling complex structures and more time using their specialized skillset to solve complex engineering challenges. The ability to use our 3D collaboration web application to view, share, and collaborate on shipyard scenes and scenarios allowed the customer to make decisions on complex processes and procedures faster, with higher confidence and reduced risk.
